About the Project

Most museums are permanent. They exist in cities, serve populations that can reach them, and leave a fixed footprint on the land they occupy. EcoGenesis proposes a different model.

The project is an architectural thesis for a deployable climate museum: a structure that can be transported to communities without permanent cultural infrastructure, assembled, experienced, and moved on without leaving a trace. The design asks a straightforward question: what if the museum itself could embody the principles it advocates for? A structure that moves, adapts, and models the kind of low-impact, regenerative relationship with the environment that the climate demands of all of us.

Built on Sustainability

Every decision in the design was made with the same question in mind: what happens to this when it is done?

The structure is built entirely from discarded shipping containers, repurposing materials that already exist rather than extracting new ones. Everything inside, including the exhibits, is designed to be recycled or reused when the museum moves on. Nothing is left behind, and nothing is wasted.

The deployable nature of the structure means it can be transported to communities without permanent cultural infrastructure, bringing climate education directly to the people who need it most, and then disappearing as cleanly as it arrived.

Inside the Museum

The experience is designed to be felt before it is understood.

The journey through the museum begins under a soaring ceiling that forces the visitor to look up, then gradually compresses until the space is so low they have to climb over the structure to pass through. The architecture itself is enacting glacial loss: the ceiling is the glacier, and the visitor moves through its retreat in real time.

Further in, a double-height room holds specimens of every species lost to human activity, suspended in small circles that form the columns of the space. The room is quiet and dense with absence. You are surrounded by what is gone.

The programming moves visitors from cause to consequence to action, ending not in despair but in agency. The goal is not to overwhelm but to make the stakes visceral enough that leaving without caring becomes difficult.
