Documenting the Frontline Population of Ahmedabad City
About the Project
This project documents individuals living in economically disadvantaged neighbourhoods of Ahmedabad. Gentrification has compressed these communities into areas with poor infrastructure, and they experience disproportionate climate change impacts due to their geographical location.
Paaryavaran Mitra, an environmental NGO, led the initiative to influence local government policy while giving visibility to the activist contributions of these communities: the people most affected by decisions made far from their doorsteps.

The documentation was published in Paaryavaran Mitra's monthly magazine, bringing visibility to these communities beyond the neighbourhoods themselves. The process involved interviewing residents directly, listening to their experiences, and educating them on the policy decisions affecting their lives and what avenues existed to push back against them.
