About the Workshop

This workshop served as a significant milestone in comprehending the construction techniques and constraints associated with building bamboo structures. Its primary purpose was to generate innovative ideas for a sturdy roofing system for the university pavilion.

Working with bamboo demands a different kind of architectural thinking; one that begins with the material's natural properties rather than imposing a predetermined form. The workshop explored what bamboo can do before deciding what to make it do.

From Sketch to Structure

The workshop moved through three distinct phases, from conceptual exploration to physical construction, with expert guidance at each stage.

Phase 01Exploring Diverse Joinery Methods
Phase 02Conceptual System Design Through Sketches
Phase 03On-Site Prototype Construction

The on-site prototype construction, with invaluable guidance from experts, transformed ideas tested on paper into a real structure, revealing the constraints and possibilities that only emerge when you're working with the material at full scale.
